Simple vs. complex

In one of my photo classes our teacher told us that the most liked photos were of simple subjects with simple backgrounds. I played with the concept in these photos....what do you think?

Fall leaves

Fall leaves in my yard!

Lake Twentytwo

This was a lovely hike in the North Cascades. It was protected in 1947 to see if preserved forest would flourish over time. Nature wins! It was a beautiful day.

Feather

The first shot was taken with extension tubes. It was difficult finding a good focus with such a narrow depth of field that made since. I'm still practicing with macro.

The next picture of the feather is with my very patient lab partner!

This was an exercise in my photo class to take 40 shots of one object. My favorites were with the feather floating in the birdbath.

Oly dogs!

I wish I had been able to whip out my camera like Barbra to get the shot of these guys being pulled in their trailers by their owner on his bicycle! I found them parked in front of Starbucks, so asked if I could take their picture. I used the best camera I had, my point and shoot!

Multi tasking as usual, I was looking for my daily shot while walking my dog around the lake after work tonight. I was drawn by the reflection of the sky in the lake and this pair of ducks.

My best friend

The Art Wolfe lecture inspired me to work on including a clear focus on foreground, subject and background. He uses a wider angle lens than I have but I liked this one of my ever faithful dog.

Dandelion Seedpod

I increased the contrast and tightened the histogram in editing.

Fall Grass

I was trying to capture the light on the grass.

Late Bloomer

I like the contrast between the fall leaves in the background and the late blooming lupine. Also the complementary colors.
